The early 20th-century masterpieces of carpentry settle into their places like a gathering of old friends who know the ways of the house. A tall sheet-metal stove stands as a silent source of warmth, while the historic ambiance of Verla is present year-round.
The central lounge of VB1 Ilmonen is the space where the story of the Verla mill village and times gone by begins. The house boasts a rich history—the two-story log building was moved to its current location in 1931, and the Ilmonens lived here for decades, shaping the building into a true home at the heart of the mill community.
The room is anchored by robust, donated early 20th-century furniture and a striking, tall traditional sheet-metal stove (pönttöuuni) that serves as a beautiful centerpiece—the kind beside which a winter evening naturally feels longer and more peaceful. On the walls, nature-themed paintings carry the Verla landscape through the seasons: the light of spring, the lush green of summer, the glow of autumn, and the silence of winter all share the same room.
Through the vintage lattice windows, a beautiful view opens across the Verla rapids, looking straight into the heart of the mill area and towards the Mill Owner’s Mansion (Patruunan Pytinki). There is something timelessly powerful in that view—as if Verla were telling the story of both work and home all at once.
