VB1 Ilmonen is part of the Verla World Heritage Site and offers its guests three separate double rooms, running much like a boutique hotel. To ensure a pleasant and safe stay at Ilmonen and within the World Heritage Site, the following house rules apply at VB1 Ilmonen, in addition to the general terms and conditions of Verla Cottages.

Any violation of these rules and terms will result in immediate intervention and full liability for damages. Furthermore, depending on the severity of the violation, guests may be evicted from the premises.

General Conduct & Cleanliness

  • Good Manners: Guests must always observe good etiquette and behave respectfully while on the premises of Ilmonen.

Good manners and common sense go a long way. Please do not do anything you wouldn't do at home, or wouldn't feel comfortable displaying in public.

  • No Outdoor Shoes: Outdoor footwear is strictly prohibited inside all areas of Ilmonen. Please always leave your outdoor shoes on the shoe rack in the lower lobby.

  • Cleanliness: Please clean up any messes as they occur.

  • Dishes: Place dirty dishes in the dishwasher (our cleaning staff will take care of running the machine).

  • Shared Restrooms: Please use the toilet brush in the shared restroom if needed.

Property & Damage Liability

  • Protecting the Property: Property belonging to Ilmonen (such as furniture, decor, appliances, tableware, cutlery, linens, and other equipment) must not be damaged.

Accidents happen, and we approach them with understanding. However, unreported damage is not considered an accident—it is treated as intentional, and we take a very strict line against it.

  • Missing Items: Any missing property will be treated as theft and reported to the authorities.

This means no taking the Sorsakoski cutlery with you on forest hikes or to the lean-to shelter. Not even a little bit.

Prohibitions & Safety

  • Illegal Substances & Weapons: Bringing narcotics and/or other illegal substances, as well as dangerous objects or substances capable of causing harm to others, into VB1 Ilmonen is strictly prohibited. Violating this rule will result in immediate eviction from the property and a ban on future visits.

  • Quiet Hours: Every guest at Ilmonen has the right to a peaceful stay. After 10:00 PM (22:00), guests must avoid loud talking, listening to music, or making any other noise that could disturb others staying at VB1 Ilmonen.

Ilmonen is a relatively small building. Even though the soundproofing is extensive, it is impossible to completely prevent sound from traveling through the historic structures.

  • No Pets: Bringing pets to VB1 Ilmonen is strictly prohibited. The furniture, structures, surfaces, and decor are not suitable for pets. Verlan Mökit offers several other properties that are much better suited for guests traveling with pets.

  • No Smoking: Smoking inside Ilmonen and within its surrounding yard is strictly forbidden. The nearest designated smoking area is located in the courtyard of the factory museum.

For non-smokers, the smell of cigarette smoke is always strong, and it inevitably drifts indoors even from the yard.

  • Open Flames: Burning candles, incense, or similar items in the rooms or other areas of Ilmonen is strictly prohibited. Candles are only permitted on the premises under staff supervision. Odor-producing burning items are never allowed.

Access Control & Security

  • No Outside Visitors: Allowing unauthorized persons or individuals not included in the booking into VB1 Ilmonen is prohibited. The entrance doors and room doors of Ilmonen must be kept locked at all times. Guests must always ensure that the main entrance door locks securely behind them.

No friends or outside visitors are allowed in the building—not even for a quick look around.

  • Entry and PIN Codes: Access to VB1 Ilmonen is automated and relies on smart key boxes and unique PIN codes. The PIN code is booking-specific and will only be provided to the person who made the reservation. The booker is responsible for keeping the code secure and ensuring that the key boxes are closed and locked properly at all times.

The weakest link in security is carelessness. So, let’s be mindful.

  • Shared Spaces: To ensure general safety and protect guests' belongings, no personal items may be stored or left behind in the shared common spaces of VB1 Ilmonen.

Random items left in random places create confusion.

  • CCTV Surveillance: To maintain order and ensure the safety of our guests, VB1 Ilmonen is equipped with a recording CCTV system for access control.
